When all is said and done, Liberty has always meant emancipation from the claims of the Catholic Church on men and nations, or what Pierre Manent has called "the Church's complete subordination to the body politic."[x] Hence the incessant propaganda of colonial pamphleteers against "Popery" had the same object as the outright genocide of the Catholic hierarchy by the Jacobins of France: the suppression of what Pope Leo called "the power of that divine religion which the Freemasons hate in proportion to their fear of it." To purge himself of worldly concerns, a member of the elite Bohemian Club participated in a 1915 Cremation of Care ceremony - complete with candles and a robed and hooded comrade to guide him. This private club of influential men still meets annually north of San Francisco and uses this symbolic ritual to kick off its summer retreat.   "We wish it to be your rule first of all to tear away the mask from Freemasonry and to let it be seen as it really is" warned Pope Leo XIII in his monumental encyclical Human Genus( 1884).
  Referring to Masonry as "this foul plague," Leo XIII urged pastoral sermons warning the Faithful that Masonry and related secret societies were "seducing men and enticing them into their ranks" in order to fill them with "the depravity of their opinions and the wickedness of their acts".
  Leo XIII was by no means the first Pope to warn of the evils of Freemasonry. Pope Clement XII had been the first to do so in 1738, then Benedict XIV, Pius VI, Leo XII, Pius VII, Pius VIII, Gregory XVI, and Pius IX. In Human Genus, Leo XIII emphasized the urgency of the earlier warnings and stated that the Freemasons "are boldly rising up against God Himself. They are planning the destruction of Holy Church ... and this with the set purpose of utterly despoiling the nations of Christendom ..."

In this interesting 1957 interview, population control and abortion advocate Margaret Sanger says her "opposition is mainly from the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church". Wallace reads a reference to Sanger about her background about how Sanger and her siblings were referred 'children of the devil' in their town growing up, because of their athiest father. Wallace asks if her motivation was not based on opposition to the church. Sangers mother was Catholic from Ireland, and had 11 children.

Wallace: "Now you certainly can take no issue with the natural law as the Church regards it"

Sanger: "Well I certainly do and I think it's unnatural".

They discuss the Catholic position on artificial birth control, in a very interesting interview the likes of which would never be aired on secular TV today. Highly recommended. As Wallace confronts Sanger on her past statements, she gets fidgety, blinking and darting out her tongue. Below, I will post excerpts from George H. W. Bush while he was a congressman in Texas in the 1960's, Bush's attacks on the Pope, Bush's glowing praise for Margaret Sanger, and his insistant advocacy of coercive population control enacted by governments worldwide.

As Wallace continues to reads Sangers quotes back to her, and how they are at variance with her current replies, she pleads, "Where these strange things come from that I said??! ... They then go on to discuss sin, if sin exists, divorce, etc.

Bush belonged to a small group of congressmen who successfully conspired to force a profound shift in the official U.S. attitude and policy toward population expansion. Embracing the "limits to growth" ideology with a vengeance, Bush and his coterie, which included such ultraliberal Democrats as then- Senator Walter Mondale (Minn.) and Rep. James Scheuer (N.Y.), labored to enact legislation which institutionalized population control as U.S. domestic and foreign policy.

Bush began his Malthusian activism in the House in 1968, which was the year in which Pope Paul VI issued his enyclical "Humanae Vitae," which contained a prophetic warning of the danger of coercion by governments for the purpose of population control. The Pope wrote: "Let it be considered also that a dangerous weapon would be placed in the hands of those public authorities who place no heed of moral exigencies.... Who will stop rulers from favoring, from even imposing upon their people, the method of contraception which they judged to be most efficacious?" For poorer countries with a high population rate, the encyclical identified the only rational and humane policy: "No solution to these difficulties is acceptable which does violence to man's essential dignity....The only possible solution ... is one which envisages the social and economic progress both of individuals and of the whole of human society...."

This was a direct challenge to the cultural paradigm transformation which Bush and other exponents of the oligarchical world outlook were promoting. Not for the first time nor for the last time, Bush issued a direct attack on the Holy See. Just days after Humanae Vitae was issued, Bush declared: "I have decided to give my vigorous support for population control in both the United States and the world." He also lashed out at the Pope. "For those of us who who feel so strongly on this issue, the recent enyclical was most discouraging."

...Like his father before him, Bush supported Planned Parenthood at every opportunity. Time after time, he rose on the floor of the House to praise Planned Parenthood's work. In 1967, Bush called for "having the government agencies work even more closely with going private agencies such as Planned Parenthood." A year later, he urged those interested in "advancing the cause of family planning," to "call your local Planned Parenthood Center" to offer "help and support."

Freemasonry is incompatible with the Catholic faith. Freemasonry teaches a naturalistic religion that espouses indifferentism, the position that a person can be equally pleasing to God while remaining in any religion. Masonry is a parallel religion to Christianity. The New Catholic Encyclopedia states, "Freemasonry displays all the elements of religion, and as such it becomes a rival to the religion of the Gospel. It includes temples and altars, prayers, a moral code, worship, vestments, feast days, the promise of reward and punishment in the afterlife, a hierarchy, and initiative and burial rites" (vol. 6, p. 137).

Masonry is also a secret society. Its initiates subscribe to secret blood oaths that are contrary to Christian morals. The prospective Mason swears that if he ever reveals the secrets of Masonry--secrets which are trivial and already well-known--he wills to be subject to self-mutilation or to gruesome execution.
(Most Masons, admittedly, never would dream of carrying out these punishments on themselves or on an errant member). Historically, one of Masonry's primary objectives has been the destruction of the Catholic Church; this is especially true of Freemasonry as it has existed in certain European countries. In the United States, Freemasonry is often little more than a social club, but it still espouses a naturalistic religion that contradicts orthodox Christianity. (Those interested in joining a men's club should consider the Knights of Columbus instead.)

The Church has imposed the penalty of excommunication on Catholics who become Freemasons. The penalty of excommunication for joining the Masonic Lodge was explicit in the 1917 code of canon law (canon 2335), and it is implicit in the 1983 code (canon 1374).
Because the revised code of canon law is not explicit on this point, some drew the mistaken conclusion that the Church's prohibition of Freemasonry had been dropped. As a result of this confusion, shortly before the 1983 code was promulgated, the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a statement indicating that the penalty was still in force. This statement was dated November 26, 1983 and may be found in Origins 13/27 (Nov. 15, 1983), 450.

The successors of Pius XII approved the Code of Canon Law of 1917 which explicitly condemned the Masons: "All those who enroll their names in the sect of Freemasons or similar associations which plot against the Church or the legitimate civil authorities incur by this very fact the penalty of excommunication, absolution from which is reserved simply to the Holy See." The revised Code of Canon Law of 1983 stipulates: "One who joins an association which plots against the Church is to be punished with a just penalty; one who promotes or moderates such an association, however, is to be punished with an interdict."
